The Skin Care Routine:
The steps listed below are generalised and can be personalised as per your requirement.
Twani tip : Do not follow the herd. Seek what suits you.
- Cleanse: Cleanse with a sulfate-free, low-foaming gel with nourishing components that don’t dry out your skin. Certain amount of oil/ sebum is must for maintaining skin structure. Be sure to remove the makeup. Use a cleansing lotion or oil first and then cleanse again to remove the residue.
- Exfoliate: Helps remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, and lets the rest of the products you apply get properly absorbed. Oily skin may be exfoliated four or five times a week. For dry, sensitive skin, exfoliate less, about once a week. The rest can exfoliate twice weekly. It keeps the pores minimized, keeps the fine lines at bay, and resurfaces the skin.
- Steam: Heat helps dialate the pores and softens the hardened oils in the pores, making extractions easier . It also increases blood flow to the skin, and it is very hydrating because it brings a lot of moisture to the skin.
- Extract: Extract blackheads & whiteheads with an extractor (many of us tend do it with our fingers). Care should be taken not to inflame the area.
- Mask: It helps lock in moisture & ingredients for better penetration. There are several kinds of masks for different skin types and needs.
- Treat with serum: Serums are great at penetrating the skin layers, thus ensuring the deep reach of the nutrients. Apply a few drops on face and neck. Massage gently in upward circular motion. Serums contain active ingredients that address the skin concerns like pigmentation and blemishes and more.
- Massage with Moisturizer: Following a serum, slather a layer of moisturizer to lock it all in. Massage of face, neck and around the eyes increases circulation and lymphatic drainage, giving you a dewy fresh complexion. Experts advise to top it up again with serum.
- Toning: This is one thing that can be done before moisturising or anytime you need to feel fresh. Just a few spritz of alcohol free hydrosol toner is all you need. It tightens the pores , helps diminish the blemishes & soothes the irritated skin.

- The Golden rules to remember :
- While applying products to your face do not forget the neck. Those tech lines need to be smoothed out too.
- Eye contours and lips are sensitive areas of the face. These features can make or marr your look. Use under eye gels/ creams that lighten the contours and lip balms to soften and plump up the lips.
- Do not go outdoors without wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen for protection against photoaging.
- Use minimum product. Over doing or using a product in excess is not going to help.
- Layer it right. Layer the products from lighter to thinner, meaning lighter products should be used first and the heavier ones should go after. Also, let a product be absorbed for a few minutes before layering the next.
- Stick to a product before writing it off. Regular usage for minimum 6 to 8 weeks is must for visible results.
- Patch test. Do not give it a miss. Before adding a product into your routine, ensure that it suits you. Apply it on the inner side of your wrist. Wait for 24 hours for any reactions. No reactions! Great, go ahead.
- Skin purge. Use of products can cause a tingling sensation called skin purge. It may last for a short while, indicating that it has started its work.
To sum it up, the present day stressors like pollution, UV rays, free radicals ravages the skin. It becomes all the more important to pay special heed to your skin needs. Try to incorporate the tips listed above and see the difference. Your skin will thank you and love you for it.
